WOW-Megan Shepherd

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine which spotlights highly anticipated upcoming releases.
This week I’m waiting on:
SOOO excited for this book! It's the final book in the trilogy. I adore these books and have fallen in love with the characters. A fantastic story of courage and friendship in a young adult sci-fi series.

Book: The Gauntlet (The Cage #3)

Author: Megan Shepherd

Release Date: May 23, 2017

The Maze Runner meets Scott Westerfeld in the final novel in the gripping and romantic Cage series, about teens abducted from Earth by an otherworldly race.

Cora and her friends have escaped the Kindred station and landed at Armstrong—a supposed safe haven on a small moon—where they plan to regroup and figure out how to win the Gauntlet, the challenging competition to prove humanity’s intelligence and set them free. But Armstrong is no paradise; ruled by a power-hungry sheriff, it’s a violent world where the teens are enslaved and put to work in mines. As Nok’s due date grows closer, and Mali and Leon journey across space to rescue Cassian, the former inhabitants of the cage are up against impossible odds.

With the whole universe at stake, Cora will do whatever it takes, including pushing her body and mind to the breaking point, to escape Armstrong and run the Gauntlet. But it isn’t just a deranged sheriff she has to overcome: the other intelligent species—the Axion, Kindred, Gatherers, and Mosca—all have their own reasons to stop her. Not knowing who to trust, Cora must rely on her own instincts to win the competition, which could change the world—though it might destroy her in the process.

Release and review of Cursed Fate by Brenda Drake

There’s something strange about the Layne sisters, and Wade Diaz wants nothing to do with them. Especially the one who ripped his heart out and set it on fire before tossing it in the garbage several months ago. Iris. He can’t even think her name without unconsciously rubbing the spot in his chest where she left a gaping hole. But now her sisters are claiming some evil spirit is after his soul, and Iris is the only one who can save him. Well, at least his heart would stop hurting, right? Didn’t sound so bad.

Iris Layne has always been the sweet sister. She’s kind to everyone, including her best friend Wade… Until she makes a horrible mistake and breaks his heart. All she wants is to go back to before ‘the dumping’. Of course, Wade would rather see her in hell first. But then Iris touches her sister’s tarot cards and unleashes an evil curse intent on playing a deadly game where no one Iris loves is safe, especially Wade.

How do you convince someone they need your help when you’re the one who hurt them most?

Cursing Fate (The Fated, #2) by Brenda Drake
Review:

I was a bit disappointed that Astrid and Reese weren't in this book except for a few pages. I adored them so much in Touching Fate, the first installment in this series. Touching Fate was one of my favorite books of last year.

No worries, though! I quickly became entranced by the other members of Astrid's family. We get to spend more time with Iris, Violet, and Daisy. This book is dedicated to Iris and her story.

I felt so bad for Iris! She had her fate changed by the events unfolded when Astrid became a fate changer. She lost the love of her life, and was tortured by the events that unfolded and the mistrust Wade held.

Wade, le sigh. *Insert dreamy smile* He was so good and kind, and was heartbroken by the betrayal he felt from Iris. He had the whole sexy, wounded bad boy thing going for her. Wade wanted Iris and had such a hard time staying away.

The cursed in this book was great and the plot was well thought out. It seems those tarot cards cause lots of trouble, they won't leave the girls alone. The Van Buren curse is explained from another pov and we get more insight into how it all started.

Vengeful spirits, possession, lots of fate changing, and craziness fills this installment of the series. I loved every minute of the book up until the last sentence. We get more character development with Daisy and Violet too.

The end was not a cliffhanger, yet I am dying for more. I hope the author writes a book for both Violet and Daisy. I need more fate changing!

I highly recommend this series for all older young adults, and adults too. The author is brilliant and I can only hope for more in this fate changing family. This book earned every star I am giving it! Ten glitter stars!!!!!! (Because five just isn't enough!)

About the Author:
Brenda Drake grew up the youngest of three children, an Air Force brat, and the continual new kid at school. Her fondest memories growing up is of her eccentric, Irish grandmother’s animated tales, which gave her a strong love for storytelling. So it was only fitting that she would choose to write stories with a bend toward the fantastical. When she’s not writing or hanging out with her family, she haunts libraries, bookstores, and coffee shops, or reads someplace quiet and not at all exotic (much to her disappointment).
